The Waiting Period Between Laser Tattoo Removal Treatments

Depending on who you talk to, different waiting periods between treatments may be recommended.  The most frequent answer is to wait 4-8 weeks in between each laser tattoo removal session.  This will give your tattoo enough time to heal after each treatment.

When you get a tattoo removed using a laser, it works by breaking up the ink particles underneath the skin.  Waiting 4-8 weeks between treatments gives the ink enough time to fully break up and get pushed away by the immune system.

Normally 4-8 weeks is enough time for the tattoo to completely heal, but if you notice the area is still scabbed or sensitive, that means the area is still healing.  If this happens, you are encouraged to wait past the recommended 8 weeks for best results.

It has also been proven that if you are willing to wait as long as 12 weeks in between sessions, a smaller number of treatments might be needed to remove the tattoo because the body has had a longer time to break up the ink particles and carry them away.
