Why Do Tattoos Age?

Almost everyone is aware that tattoos age, but not many know why.  There are a few factors that contribute to the aging of your tattoo.  Two of the most crucial factors of aging tattoos are sunlight and the skin aging.

Sunlight causes your skin to age faster than it would if it was not exposed to the sun, which is why you should try to cover up your tattoo while in the sun.  Sun exposure causes your tattoo to fade, which makes the tattoo look aged.

As people grow older, their skin begins to change.  Certain areas of skin sag, causing tattoos to sag with the skin.  There is not much you can do to prevent tattoos from sagging, it is just something people have to accept as the grow older.

If you notice your tattoo looking faded, you are able to retouch it, but it is not recommended to do more than a few retouches.  After touching up a tattoo more than a few times, the lines and colors will start to blend together and it will not look like a tattoo anymore.

Aging tattoos are not the end of the world.  Once you accept that your tattoos will change with your body, it does not seem so bad.  If you want a tattoo, worrying about it aging should not stop you from getting one.  Many people are still happy with their tattoos years later, even when they do start to look a little faded and aged.
