Swimming Before and After Laser Tattoo Removal

Swimming before starting laser tattoo removal is completely safe, it is swimming after treatments that is a concern.  You should wait between 3 and 4 days after each laser tattoo removal session to go swimming.

Swimming immediately after a laser tattoo removal is not recommended.  After each treatment, you should avoid putting the treated area in any water that could be too hot or dirty for the first few days.  You should avoid hot tubs, pools, lakes, rivers, and oceans because they can contain germs that can cause infection.  You even want to avoid bath or shower water that is too hot because this can cause irritation to the treated area.

If you do come in contact with dirty water don’t worry too much, just make sure you wash the area thoroughly with soap and clean water and apply ointment and bandages if needed.  If you do notice the area seeming infection, be sure to contact a doctor.

You never know what is floating around in oceans and public pools, so avoiding these as much as you can for the first few days after your sessions is your safest option.  This will lower the chances of your tattoo getting infected or irritated.  This may be hard to do in the summer months, but try to avoid the water as much as possible for your safety and for the best results.
