Risks of Getting Tattoos

There are many risks associated with getting a tattoo that most people do not even think about.  Although these risks do not commonly occur, it is still important to be aware of them before getting a tattoo.

  1. Scarring.  If your body scars easily, getting a tattoo might leave a scar.  Before getting a tattoo check for keloids on the body.  If you have these you are more likely to get a scar from tattooing.
  2. Allergies.  People with sensitive skin are at risk for having an allergic reaction from the ink.  The most common symptom of an allergic reaction is a rash.
  3. Blood diseases.  It is extremely important to go to a clean tattoo parlor that uses sterile needles.  If the needles are not sterile you run a risk of getting hepatitis or HIV, which are both very serious diseases that no one wants.
  4. Infections.  Infections are also a risk if you go to an unsanitary tattoo parlor.  It is also possible to get an infection after the tattoo is done if you do not care for it properly while it is healing.
  5. Dissatisfaction.  Getting a tattoo can lead to the chance that you may not like your tattoo.  This is why it is important to carefully and thoughtfully plan your tattoo out beforehand so you’re not living with tattoo regret.

The risks listed above are not something to take lightly.  Although these are uncommon, they can still happen so it is important to be aware and proactive.  The most important thing to do to avoid the most serious health risks is to make sure you get tattooed at a place that is sanitary.  If you are questioning the cleanliness of a parlor, do not go there.  It is better to be safe than sorry.
